Final Sound Mix

Last week we completed the last phase of the post-production process: the sound mix. Hard to believe we took this film from production through post in seven months. We are eternally grateful to Don Hall, Rich Hyland, and our lovely post-sound technicians, Amy Reynolds and Valen Hernandez!

41st Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage

My first research trip to Manzanar was in 2003, a year before the park was reopened with a groundbreaking ceremony. Back then, there was virtually nothing at the site. Just the cemetery monument, the entrance sign, the auditorium, and a shell of one of the barracks. Now, the auditorium houses an interpretive center, many of the original gardens and building foundations have been excavated, and there are handsome signs that explain various interest points of the camp. By next year, at least two more of the barracks will be rebuilt.

Alice and I decided it would be a great experience to partake in this year's annual Manzanar Pilgrimage. Since 1969 the wonderful Manzanar Committee has hosted this event as a way to remember the experiences of the tens of thousands of Japanese who were interned during World War II.
